Hedgeline was formed on March 1st 1998, by Michael Jones and a small group of less than 200 people who contacted him as a result of his famous and much publicised, five year, court case. Many of these helped in some way with the setting up of Hedgeline. Among them,
Dennis Harris, (Dudley), built our first effective close-knit local group which built up productive relationships with both Local Council and Local Newspaper.
Clare Hinchliffe, (Birmingham), put into words many of the ideas and concepts which have formed the basis of Hedgeline's campaign, and meanwhile developed its publications and website. She later took over the job of managing the campaign.
Derek Glew, (Bristol), was very active in the campaign from the outset and soon became our technical adviser.
Michael Jones, (Birmingham), provided the impetus for forming the group. He won the famous Stanton v.Jones 5 year, one hundred thousand pound Court Case, on a technical point regarding the estate covenant applying to his land. He continued his publicity campaign and made himself available daily to speak at length to press, politicians and to individual hedge-victims giving tailored advice.
